Title : Widows Mite Coins, as
told in the Bible Story
Ca. 50 BC - 50 AD
Description:
This coin is a genuine bronze coin issued by King
Alexander Jannaeus, the Great Grand Nephew of Judah Macabee and the Jewish
leader of the Holy Land from 103-76 B.C. It is this type of coin that
circulated in the Holy Land during Jesus' life.
And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and
beheld how the people cast money into the treasury; and many that were rich
cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two
mites, which make a farthing.
And he called unto him, his disciples, and saith
unto them, Verily I say unto you, This poor widow hath cast more in, than
all they which have cast into the treasury;
For all they did cast in of their abundance, but
she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. -- Mark,,

Title :
Museum Quality Roman Bone Hairpin
w/Horse
Ca. 100 BC - 100 AD
Description:
Here we have a fabulous and rare Roman bone
hairpin with horse terminal. A lovely and excellent example with an openwork
terminal at the top of the tapering pin featuring a horse, with his head
turned back, possibly biting the hide on his back, his legs bent as if
kneeling or laying down. The hairpin has a "priceless" smooth, dark patina,
probably from much use combines with perfumed oils in the hair, making the
pin take on a look almost like petrified wood or agate. We have handled many
Roman bone hairpins over the years, but this is by far the very best we have
seen, and would obviously have belonged to a lady of the elite upper class
in antiquity. This wonderful, museum quality Roman bone hairpin would make a
fine addition to any collection. Superb!
