I am often asked by my customers what I consider great
pre-Columbian art. Over the years of dealing in antiquities I have
definitely developed an opinion. The following dozen or so pieces I just
listed are what I consider masterpieces of pre-Columbian art. This is based
not only on rarity of the culture but also just how perfect and or unusual
each piece is. Some of these are in my private collection. Pieces like these
are not cheap and many customers believe I buy these items for pennies on
the dollar and make a huge profit. The truth is when it comes to collecting
pieces in my private collection I am right there in the front row of all the
major auction houses paying top dollar plus the 18% premium! Buy what you
love, these are just great in my opinion.
Many collectors turn their nose up at
the smaller figures, mistakenly thinking something must be large to be
important. This is simply not true. Some of the most valuable pieces of art
ever sold were of miniature. I invite everyone to watch the below video, the

Title: Rare Colima, Camala Phase
Conjoined Platform Couple / whistle
Ca. 200 BC - 250 AD
Description:
The first time I saw this platform scene I started laughing out loud.
It is like finding a 2000 year old snapshot. A standing male with Shaman's

grin on his face (Honeymoon perhaps?). She wears a detailed wrap, small
breasts exposed. Both have ear spools and nose rings. Of interest is the
style her hair is done in, shaved save a few locks. The male has a whistle
made in the back of his detailed head wrap, remarkable! Conjoined pairs are
rare enough, but add the fact that they are done on a platform makes this
truly a unique piece of ancient art. Legally purchased from a private
