Description: Beautiful classic Red Mesa outline serrate with an early, earthy color palette, and a seminal version of a Teec Nos Pos border. The pattern is well balanced, and the weave is fine and tight – but, as was often the case during the formative years of the Navajo rug period, the border corners don’t match. More than that, they’re not even close. In the upper left-hand corner, the pattern literally wanders right off the edge! Perhaps the trader at Red Mesa had words with the weaver who made this, made clear the importance of symmetry, etc. – but now, a century later, this weaver’s arcane approach to corner design only adds to the rug’s appeal.
