Ca. 100 BC – 300 AD
Description:A Colima, Camala style vessel of a bowl containing hundred of shrimp tails. At closer inspection one can see the distinctive shrimp tail curl at the end of the objects in the bowl. I have seen several of these shrimp bowls both in publication and ion person, see Townsend page 214. These vessels often referred to as “Canteros” cantainer, most often depict food offerings. This vessel no doubt is depicting just that. The vessel is stone polished and slipped red. The vessel is large and the slip is smooth and blood red. Manganese and dendrite deposits present. Legally purchased from a private collection.
