Ca. 950 AD - 1300 AD
Description: Mimbres collectors know the rarity of story bowls. This one is great showing a centrally painted bird of prey, there are three images of painted Mountain Lions (as seen from there painted claws). The Mountain Lion was revered by the ancients for it's great hunting ability and the fact that it was the only animal higher on the food chain than them. . Two of them stand of feathered spears. Each spear has five feathers hanging from it, wonderfully detailed and important. Unlike the Mogollon, who often buried numerous vessels with their dead, the Mimbres usually provided only a single bowl, ritually "killed" by punching a hole in the bottom to release the spirit. For an additional fee a custom steel stand can be constructed for display. Legally purchased from a private collection, legal release and disclosure accompanies the piece. 23-30
