Title: Egyptian New Kingdom Offering Cup to Ramses II

Ca. 1550 BC - 1069 BC
Description: A very rare and great Egyptian faience votive offering cup to Ramses II. Faience is the pre-curser to glass and the Egyptians were masters of creating with faience. This small offering cup would have been given during ceremony for Ramses II. This piece is not from his tomb, it was not uncommon for Egyptians to show their respect by making offerings to great rulers. Ramses II was an ancient Egyptian king, third ruler of the 19th Dynasty, the son of Seti I. During the early part of his reign Ramses fought to regain the territory in Africa and western Asia that Egypt had held during the 16th and 15th centuries BC. His principal opponents were the Hittites, a powerful people of Asia Minor, against whom he waged a long war. The major battle of this war was fought in 1274 at Kadesh, in northern Syria, and in 1258 BC a treaty was signed whereby the contested lands were divided and Ramses agreed to marry the daughter of the Hittite king. The remaining years of his rule were distinguished by construction of such monuments as the rock-hewn temple of Abu Simbel, the great hypostyle hall in the Temple of Amon at Karnak, and the mortuary temple at Thebes, known as the Ramesseum.Egyptian artifacts are by far the most faked of all and scarabs are right at the top. All of our pieces have an unconditional guarantee of authenticity. Legal release documents included with each piece.

Show with typical lion features and a large nude body. Remains of red paint. Bes, the Egyptian dwarf god believed to guard against evil spirits and misfortune. In contrast to the other Egyptian deities, who were usually depicted in profile, Bes was depicted full face. He was shown to be ugly and grotesque in appearance, with a large head, protruding tongue, bow legs and a bushy tail. He bore a plumed crown and wore the skin of a lion or panther. Despite his appearance, he was a beneficent deity and his appearance was meant to scare off evil spirits. He bore swords and knives to ward off evil spirits, as well as musical instruments which he used to create a din which would frighten them off. Bes aided the hippopotamus goddess Taweret in childbirth. He was originally the protective deity of the royal house of Egypt, but came to be a popular household deity throughout Egypt. Title: Egyptian Bronze Oxyrhynchus Fish

Ca. Late Period 747 BC - 332 BC
Description: Authentic ancient Egyptian Bronze Oxyrhynchus Fish (a.k.a. Nile Perch) for your consideration. The eyes, once inlaid with paste glass, are now empty sockets as is typical for these ancient bronzes; the piece is surmounted by a suspension loop behind the crown, sporting a lovely mottled olive green patina. Title: Egyptian Late Period Faience Amulet of Shu

Ca. Late Period 747 BC - 332 BC
Description: Fine blue-green Faience Amulet of the God Shu. The god is represented as a kneeling male, with his hands open, arms raised (holding up the sky), and a solar disk on his head.

The embodiment of the sky. In the Ennead of Heliopolis he is the son of Atum and brother-husband of Tefnut. He was one of the first deities to be created by Atum, either from his semen or the muscus of his notrils. With Tefnut he became the father of Nut (the sky) and Seb (the earth). He raised the body of his daughter high above the earth and separated thus heaven and earth.

The connection of Atum and Re, as Atum-Re, makes Shu a son of Re and as such the brother of the Egyptian king who calls himself a son as well. Shu is depicted in human form wearing an ostrich feather (the hieroglyph for his name), with his arms raised to support Nut above the supine form of her brother Geb. Comes displayed in a glass Riker case.
